Windows items

  • Recently Documents: On your Start Menu, the last 10 or 15 documents you read are stored in the Documents folder.

  • Start Run: This is a history of all files you have run using the Run command.

  • Windows Search - File Find: Windows and IE saves the files, text and computers you have ever searched, so when you want to search again, you do not need to type again, but others can also find what you have searched on your computer.

  • Empty Recycle Bin: This is a special area on your computer that holds all deleted files until they are permanently deleted from your computer.

  • Temporary Files: Windows creates temporary files in a folder named "Temp" that stores files used during installation of a program or files used while an application is running.

  • Clipboard: After you finish using programs or performing copy/paste operations in Windows, all kinds of data can be left behind in the system's memory. Other programs and other users can obtain this data.

  • Memory Dumps: The *.dmp files created by windows when there is a system crash.

  • Chkdsk File Fragments: The Windows utility Scan Disk creates .CHK files at the root directory of drives. These files usually contain junk data and can be erased to help keep drives clean. This option will have Privacy Eraser Pro erase the .CHK files (if they exist) for you.

  • Windows Log Files: When you install a new program or piece of hardware Windows logs the changes to .LOG files in the Windows directory. In most cases these files will never be needed, even for advanced users. This option will safely delete these files.

  • Open/Save Dialog Box History: Windows records the filenames that you opened and saved in the system registry.

  • Menu Order Cache: The Start menu allows you to set a custom order to the programs listed, although there's no option to sort all folders by name. Selecting this option removes any custom ordering from the Start menu.

  • Tray Notifications Cache: In Windows XP the System Tray (the set of icons next to the clock in the bottom-right corner) orders and hides items automatically for you. Whilst this is useful, it records a list of every program that has been run from the tray. This option clears the list of previous programs and removes any custom display/hide options. (Warning: This won't have any affect until you manually restart the explorer process from the Task Manager.)

  • User Assist History: The start menu on Windows XP displays a list of the most recently run programs. Selecting this option will clear this list.

  • Microsoft Media Player: If you have Windows Media Player installed on your system, playlists that have been created for easier access to your media are stored on your computer.

  • RealOne Player: If you have RealOne Player installed on your system, playlists that have been created for easier access to your media are stored on your computer.

  • Paint: If you use the Windows Paint program, this log provides a list of files that you have recently opened using Paint. You see this list on the File menu in Paint.

  • Microsoft Office: If you have MS-Office the "Most Recently Used" (MRU) lists are stored on your computer. The MRU lists contain links to the last 5 or 10 items that have been used and are found in MS-Office applications under the OPEN, SAVE AS, Insert Picture, and other options. These lists show the MRU for Word, Excel, Access, FrontPage and PowerPoint. Supports Microsoft Office 97,2000,XP and 2003.

  • Instant Messengers: Support MSN Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, ICQ, AOL Instant Messenger, Skype.

  • Outlook Express: Cleaning items in Outlook Express will delete the data stored in each folder.
